Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Clinical mental health counseling combines the deeply humanistic work of therapy with expert clinical knowledge, including diagnosis skills, knowledge of psychopharmacology, and familiarity with a range of mental health experiences. My approach to mental health is compassionate and normalizing, with an emphasis on building fulfilling, meaningful lives.
This could include support for:
Depression
Suicidal ideation
Self harm
Anxiety
Panic attacks
Bipolar and schizoaffective experiences
Struggles with attachment, including borderline personality concerns
PTSD and other trauma-related experiences
Disordered eating
Compulsive behaviors
Alcohol and Substance Use Counseling
Problem alcohol and substance use doesn’t happen in a vacuum. I approach addiction as a natural difficulty of the human experience, part of our very normal desire to seek pleasure and relieve pain. Often we won’t talk about alcohol or substance use at all, focusing instead on the pain and patterns that made using feel worthwhile in the first place. Other times, we’ll talk a lot about substances, considering physical, psychological, social, and cultural aspects of addiction to create a recovery plan that’s personalized to you.
Life Transition Support
Whether we’ve chosen a change or life has brought change to our door, times of transition are one of the hardest parts of being human. Therapy can provide support for navigating these transitions, building capacity to sit with discomfort and honor your values as you change and grow.
Therapy for life transitions could include support for:
Divorce and other relational endings
Grief and loss
Career changes, including job loss and retirement
Life stage changes, such as getting married, having children, or becoming an empty nester
Significant health changes
Leaving abusive situations
Transitioning from an institutional setting to civilian life
Culturally Competent Counseling
Cultural humility and a strong awareness of cultural and social influences on health are central parts of all of my work. I am committed to ongoing self-inquiry into my own biases and continuing education on society and culture. While I bring this understanding to all of my work,
I also provide support for individuals navigating culturally-specific concerns, including:
LGBTQ+-specific concerns, including identity and relationships
Religious diversity, including religious trauma
Racial trauma
Intergenerational trauma
I am committed to making psychotherapy as accessible as possible. Let’s talk about a personalized fee schedule that works for us both.
